Detroit techno pioneer **Jeff Mills** has released *Gamma Rays*, a four-track EP featuring previously unheard recordings from 1995.

Released on October 30, 2026, through his own label **Axis Records**, the project brings material from the sessions surrounding his *Live at Liquid Room* recording in Tokyo into circulation for the first time.

## Recordings from Tokyo in 1995

The four tracks were originally created for Mills' *Live at Liquid Room* DJ mix and its accompanying film and audio recording.

Completed on quarter-inch reel-to-reel tape, the recordings remained in his archive for more than three decades without receiving an official release.

The sessions took place during a significant period in Mills' career, when his work as a producer and DJ was helping define the sound of Detroit techno beyond the United States.

## Four Tracks from the Archives

*Gamma Rays (c.1995)* contains four recordings titled “i4,” “i8,” “i6” and “i2.”

The material dates from the same creative period as “i9,” another Mills production associated with his mid-1990s work.

Rather than presenting newly recorded music, the EP offers a direct connection to the production methods and musical ideas Mills was exploring at the time.

The release is available through Axis Records in digital and 12-inch vinyl formats.

## Revisiting the Liquid Room Era

Recorded in Tokyo in 1995, *Live at Liquid Room* became an important document of Mills' fast-paced, technically demanding DJ style.

The recording marked its 30th anniversary in 2025, with Mills revisiting the project through international performances and archival releases.

*Gamma Rays* adds four previously unavailable pieces to that history, extending the story of one of techno's most influential periods.
